9 Anime Memories! Nakama’s Epic and Tear-Jerking Flashbacks – Number 6 was SO unexpected!

February 15, 2017

Our Nakama, just like you, have our favorite moments in Anime! They made us laugh, they made us cry they made us want to go to the gym because we feel too weak now! Here are some of our favorite Anime moments!

9.
Dragonball Z: Gohan goes Super Saiyan 2!

Oh don’t get me started! This is a historic moment for any anime watcher. This moment happens in Dragon Ball Z, during the Cell Saga. As Gohan is forced into a corner, he’s powerlessly watches as Cell’s “mini-me’s” attack his friends and family! In fear of his overwhelming power hidden within he holds back his anger. The peace loving decapitated head of Android 16 conveyed to Gohan that it was OK to be angry for the right reason, to defend good against evil.

Cell being amused by the conversation took the opportunity to crush the head. Gohan, saw red and the late Android 16’s words sunk in – Gohan released his next level of hidden potential. The Japanese version of this moment was a tearjerker with the music’s lyrics “Ore wa ore wo koete kuru” or “I will surpass myself”

Bleach: Ichigo saves Rukia from her death sentence

This one goes back a while! A classic scene from a classic Anime, Bleach. Thanks to giving her powers away to a mere human being (Ichigo Kurosaki), Rukia has been sentenced to death for her crimes by her fellow Shinigami (Death Gods). But Ichigo couldn’t let this go, after hearing from his friend the “Sandle-Hat Man” Kisuke Uruhara, Ichigo was transported from the human world to the Seireitei (Soul Society) to get through fight through many Shinigami to save his friend. The best moment arrives when Rukia is about to be executed by a very large sword which manifests as a bird of fire. It flies towards her and she excepts her fate and closes her eyes. As she waits, nothing happens, she reopens to her eyes to see Ichigo in from of her holding back the fire bird with his sword against his back “…Yo!” he says calmly. Alright, kinda cool.

One Piece – Vivi left behind without a Goodbye!

Vivi, the Princess of Alabasta traveled with the Strawhat Pirates Crew during their time in Alabasta kingdom. After they defeated the evil warlord Crocodile, the kingdom was saved and the citizens loved the crew!
However, still being Pirates, the crew had to flee the island! Princess Vivi ran out of an important ceremony to bid farewell to the crew as their sailed out to sea.

She said her goodbyes over a loudspeaker that could be heard by the entire kingdom including, the approaching marines! The Strawhat Pirates couldn’t respond to her goodbyes, because it’d show the marines that she was involved with pirates. Instead, the crew lift their sleeves to reveal an X on their arms. A mark that showed their identity as the Strawhat Pirates (Which they had used against a copycat shape shifter earlier). Vivi understood what they meant, a very famous scene in the One Piece story.

6.
Honey and Clover: Kaoru and Shinobu get their father’s company back!

A personal favorite! Honey and Clover is an unexpectedly deep story with multiple story lines happening at the same time. Morita Shinobu, a crazy character in Honey and Clover is a seemly ordinary University student, at Hamabi. However, he mysteriously disappears (Sometimes months at a time) and randomly comes back, often exhausted, full of money (Sometimes bags), and extraordinary Omiyage (gifts) like Croquettes.

Unbeknownst to his fellow class / dorm mates that Shinobu and his older brother Kaoru had been saving money for many years together to complete their secret goal. As a child, their inventor father, Tsukasa Morita, owned a company which created various technology. One day Tsukasa’s kind hearted business partner betrayed him by selling the company over to an American business person. They lost their offices, home and shortly after their father died of depress … and then their mother too! The two young boys were left with nothing, but vengeful feelings.

For 10 years they saved and bought shares in their father’s ex-company. When they had enough shares, they took over in an epic scene of memories, revenge and silence all in one scene. (I happened to be peeling onions that day T_T)

5.
Naruto Shippuden: Madara Uchiha fights… Everyone

Madara Uchiha, a one man army that made Rambo look like an insect. A weak insect, like those really small flies that buzz around your coffee. As Madara stands conversing with Kabuto through through his reincarnated partner, he is asked to demonstrate the power of the Uchiha, as if it were his ‘Golden Days’. He launches into action, taking on every man, woman and thing that attacks him. As if they were all his attackers were ragdolls, he plows through the crowd of 1000’s of Ninja attacking Madara all at once. The entire elements come into play, fire, water, wind, earth… a meteor.

Hands down one of the most epic anime fights of all time.

3.
Samurai Champloo: Mugen and Jin versus The Samurai who smells like Sunflowers

A scene with Mugen and Jin, two master swordsmen of their own styles, undefeated by any who dared to cross swords with them BOTH took on this mysterious Samurai. The samurai who smelled like Sunflowers, the man who throughout the anime they had been in search of for the sake of their co-travelling, Fu. The mysterious samurai named Kariya’s swordplay was extremely fast and his movements fluid enough to take on both men at the same time.

As they fought, he seemed to emanate wind from his slashes and glowed as he stood still, the signs of a master of their craft – this was a fight to the death.

2.
One Piece: Luffy’s Haki takes down 50,000 enemies in ONE go!

Alright, another One Piece (We love One Piece OK? We’re Nakama afterall). So the moment happens at the Fishman Island under the sea, Cody and his 100,000 henchmen have gone wild and are ready to attack 10 man Strawhat Pirates! As this was the crew’s first big fight after being separated for 2 years, they’re arguing over how many they can have each. Equally, 10,000 men per Strawhat Pirate. As they’re squabbling, Luffy silently parts them and walks towards the 100,000 as they launch their assault onto him. The crew watch as Luffy silently launches a blast of energy from his body, knocking out 50,000 of the enemies without moving a finger!

The crew and the enemy look on in shock as they’re not even sure what happened themselves, the “Conquerer’s Haki”. Zoro looking onward at the captain’s new powers jokingly says “If he wasn’t capable of this level, we need to switch who’s Captain”. A moment exhibiting the new found power of the Strawhat Crew!

1.
Hunter X Hunter: Gon vs Genthru Bomber!

Hunter X Hunter is a great anime for the strategic thinker! One of the greatest moments was during the Hunter Exams when Gon was cornered by Genthru Bomber, a Hunter who was more experienced than the 10 Year Old Gon. Bomber, like his name, was able to touch a part of someone’s body and set of an explosion inside their body, a deadly skill! Gon fought Bomber with extreme caution and was able to bait himself into being attacked in order to attack bomber back. He sacrificed his arm, in order to land his infamous attack “Janken” attack (Rock Paper Scissors). Watching this fight scene is like watching a fast moving chess match, where wits, skill and planning was needed at a fast pace. Gon was able to defeat Bomber by luring him into a giant hole, then summoning a meteor from a card! Amazing tactics!
